Episode Description:
Fashion use has almost doubled in the last few years yet we are wearing our clothes less and less. Have things changed in the last year with Covid, and are we shopping less or more?
Is there a move towards a more conscious, discerning consumer? And will we be asking questions on how and where our clothes are made?
This week Lynne takes a look at the world of fashion from her past life as a PR Guru when she founded London Fashion Week in the 80’s, to present shopping trends and most importantly looking at what's next. Is sustainability in the industry another trend or is there a genuine mood for lasting change?
Joining Lynne for this episode is the sustainable fashion pioneer Orsola de Castro, co-founder of Fashion Revolution, to discuss her new book Loved Clothes Last: How the Joy of Rewearing and Repairing Your Clothes Can Be a Revolutionary Act. They discuss everything from Orsola’s start in the fashion industry, to how she co-founded Fashion Revolution after the cataclysmic events of Rana Plaza in Bangladesh, through to the movement’s growth on Twitter using the #whomademyclothes and how it helped expose the lack of transparency of the detrimental environmental effects, and often hidden human costs.
Do get involved with Fashion Revolution Week, which will run from Monday 19th - Sunday 25th April 2021, by visiting www.fashionrevolution.org. This year Fashion Revolution is calling on the fashion industry and governments to recognise the interconnection between human rights and the rights of nature.
